I have never done stone carving before and Killian, with his expertise, showed us how to do it. Once I got used to holding the tools and losing the fear of doing it wrong, I found it very rewarding. I highly recommend to do the 2 days. On the second day I felt more confident and I could finish my piece. I also recommend to have in mind what you want to do and to keep it simple. I carved a cat and was very happy with the result. The atmosphere in the workshop was relaxed and there was plenty of drinks and snacks. The workshop is run in beautiful Ballyknockan and is held in a active stonemason/stonecutters shed In the heart of the village. Getting to work in this unique space with professionals such as Killian feels like such a privilege. It is so exciting to see what everyone else is working on and it is a great social space for artists and hobbyists to meet and share ideas. I recently had the pleasure of taking part in the Stone Carving Workshop in Ballyknockan, overlooking the beautiful Blessington lakes. It was an unforgettable experience. Killian is a true master of his craft — his passion for traditional stonemasonry and stone carving is evident in the historical building he restored that he uses as his workshop. The stone carving was a wonderful hands-on experience. Killian and Zach are excellent teachers – patient and knowledgeable. Their step-by-step process makes stone carving accessible and enjoyable even for complete beginners. Being able to work with traditional tools to shape a granite stone gave me a real appreciation for the skill of stonemasonry It’s rare to find today an opportunity to learn a traditional craft in such an authentic environment.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Attended a stone carving workshop over the weekend of 24th & 25th of January in the most picturesque Ballyknocken. Did not know what to expect at all but was so pleasantly surprised by the experience.
