200 years of Ballyknockan. A Living History

After winning an award during Heritage Week in Ireland and Presenting as a speaker at the event hosted at Trinity College Dublin, The Heritage Council kindly wrote a piece about the O’Flaherty Family. The feature delves into the 200 years of stonemasons in our family.

No Stone Unturned

Stonemason Killian O’Flaherty wants to open up the craft to a whole new generation. Killian and Petra discussed business so far.

The Ferocious O’Flahertys

The Munster Express wrote a featured article about the O’Flaherty brother and sister, Killian & Petra. As 8th-gen stonemasons, the brother and sister chat about life as stone masters.

Stone Masonry in west Wicklow: meet Petra O’Flaherty

The article features Petra O’Flaherty, an eighth-generation stone mason and stone cutter from West Wicklow near the Blessington lakes. Petra and her brother, Killian, continue the family’s masonry work, tracing back through eight generations on her father’s side. Petra shares insights about her family’s history, involvement in stone masonry, and their migration for work.

Petra lives up to her name as she becomes family’s eighth generation to carve out a career as a stonemason

Petra is one of our 8th-generation family stonemasons. What makes Petra so special? She is the first registered stonemason apprentice in over 30 years in Ireland. Petra proudly continues the Irish heritage into the modern century. O’Flaherty Stone and the family are incredibly proud of Petra. Additionally, we would like to thank the Irish Independent for publishing Petra’s impressive stonemason journey.
